Freestyle Slalom Workshop, February 2011

I've gone ahead and scheduled a workshop for the end of February 2011 here in Belgium, so for all the people who wish to learn slalom and are reading this, please do get in touch with me at megan [at] skatefreestyle [dot] com. I've posted details about the workshop on the Conecrazy forum here, but I will happily tell you all about it here too. And to avoid a boring old cross-post, here's the deal in slightly different words.

You: You want to be, or already are, into freestyle slalom skating. You can already skate at least a little, preferably backwards as well as forwards, but consult me if you are unsure whether your level is appropriate for the workshop. (Small secret: ANYONE can really learn slalom, but it will be much less frustrating for you if you have some basic skating under your belt.) You do not have a heel brake on your skate. If you do, you are willing to let me take it off for you the day the workshop begins. :)

Me: A currently-competitive international freestyle slalom skater with the tools necessary and the genuine desire to help you succeed as a skater. More comfortable skating than walking. Experienced teacher with an eye for posture and style. Certified slalom instructor through ICP. Right-hand woman of the one and only Naomi Grigg. Long story short (too late!): I know what I'm doing.

The Workshop: February 26 and 27 in a nice indoor sporthall in Leopoldsburg, Belgium. 9 am-3 pm on the Saturday and 3-8 pm on the Sunday. Eight hours' total skating time with discussion and breaks making up the additional time. Material organized thematically so that students of different levels have cohesive, level-appropriate maneuvers to work with. Along with slalom tricks, we will consider speed, smoothness, amplitude, transitions, and freestyle combinations. However, the workshop will be based around YOUR goals as a student, so don't be shy to let me know what YOU want to achieve.

The Price: 80 euro, because it's the first time I am doing this sort of format and I am giving myself a bit of an allowance for screwing up. To be clear, I don't anticipate screwing up, and in fact I expect genius to exude from every appendage at all times (and subsequently from yours), so really it's quite the bargain, I know, and I can't really logically keep instruction at that price, especially when there is travel involved (which there isn't for me, this time). However being that it's my first go at a Skatefreestyle workshop, and the most important thing for me to have is full attendance and a feeling of momentum; so there you have the reasoning for the bargain.

Your Next Step: Contact me at megan [at] skatefreestyle [dot] com. I can answer all your questions and help you get into town, if you'll be traveling.

Well, there. It feels like I've said everything important, in appropriately conversational bloggy fashion. If I've missed something obvious, my apologies, and please do inform me.

Wish me luck, and I hope to see you there!
